As a singer, Maia is a friend who holds your hand and sustains your eye contact– a fellow seeker who knows your travails because she has gone through them. Even her greyest storm cloud has outlines– and it is her seeing these dynamic distinctions, and putting words to them, that brings this shared darkness to life.

New! ✹ Hiraeth

“Hiraeth” is a song born of deep longing. This Welsh word encapsulates an untranslatable nostalgia-a yearning for places that may never have existed or can never be again. The first time I encountered this word it stirred something within me, a pull on my heart and a soft whisper of recognition. It felt like home, like uncovering a forgotten treasure. May this song awaken in you a sense of that ancient lost calling- “out of dust, out of rock, out of fire”.

Co-produced and engineered by Johnny Waken. Drums-Austin McCall and lead guitar-Johnny Waken.

New! ✹ Prairie Train

“Prairie Train” was inspired by a photograph of a vintage train that sparked my imagination and carried me on a whimsical journey. This sweet and playful love song holds the essence of that dreamlike adventure, and I hope it brings a smile to your heart.

Co-produced and engineered by Johnny Waken. Drums-Austin McCall, lead guitar and harmonica-Johnny Waken.

ELIZA

ELIZA came to me through a dream vision several years ago when I was going through a great deal of change in my life. This ancestral song encouraged me to listen deep to my heart’s calling and led me on a miraculous healing journey into vocal embodiment. May Eliza take you on your own heart journey as you receive the gift of song.

Co-produced and engineered by Johnny Waken. Drums-Austin McCall, lead guitar-Johnny Waken.

black crow calling, the album

The songs I write have always been a tremendous source of healing in my life. They are intimate, timeless rememberings-heart callings of longing and repose, woven tales of love, grief, joy, and beauty. They speak to the oneness of all living things, to the mysteries of the universe, and to my connection with Spirit.

I have written dozens of songs over the years and am so ready to get them out to the world. Four songs are out now on Spotify and YouTube, co-produced and engineered by Johnny Waken.

Friends, I am calling on your support to help fund a portion of the production costs of the album so I can bring this dream to life! If you are able to donate to this project, thank you so much! If you can share this fundraiser with others and help to spread my music far and wide, thank you so much! If you’ve already donated, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

With much love and gratitude,

~ Maia Rhenish

Listen Deep.

Maia’s songs possess the intense beauty of mottled light. Shadows and sharp illuminations dance, swirl, give birth, and die together– always against a backdrop of longing and repose. To call them nature songs, or fables, misses the way her songs rise from her body’s memory of the earth. Yes, there are crows, daffodils, tidal swells, and oceans. But these are not just symbols: they are the feelings of a lone traveler who has spent years in ritual communion with the forests and oceans of the South. As a singer, she is a friend who holds your hand and sustains your eye contact– a fellow seeker who knows your travails because she has gone through them. Even her greyest storm cloud has outlines– and it is her seeing these dynamic distinctions, and putting words to them, that brings this shared darkness to life. Her lineage –the poetry of Mary Oliver and Rumi, the stories of Isabel Allende, the songs of Joni Mitchell and Natalie Merchant– confirm for us that all tenderness is benedictory. Her songs are the illuminated wisdom of a traveler. .
